My first internship job with Roger Riggle was at Crystal Couture. Crystal
Couture is a fashion show in Arlington, VA for local designers and boutiques.
Roger Riggle was commissioned to body paint models. On my first day, he turned
a male model into a woodland creature. One of the many things I thought was
cool was using real bamboo leaves from Roger’s yard as stencils. We laid the
leaves down the model’s arms and one leg as if they were growing on a branch
and Roger air brushed over it. If I was able to pull the leaves up from his
arms and leg without smearing the paint (which was the hardest part) it looked
amazing. Then I just went in with some black paint and a brush to outline the
leaf veins, to make it easier to see from farther away. It looked great! (See
the picture below) I learned that week how to use many different materials as
stencils. Crystal Couture was so much
fun and I would love to do it again soon. Check it out next year, I bet you’ll
love it!
